I am one of those people that constantly has a to-do list the length of my arm. I frantically rush through the day, trying to get things done. At the end of the day, I look back at the to-do list, with so many things still left to do, and sigh. It’s not a good feeling. And then it starts up again the next day- yesterday’s unfinished tasks competing with the things that urgently need to get done today. I’m often functioning in a fog, never quite sure that I’m doing the thing I should be doing. (Clearly, I need to read Getting Things Done again.) And I never feel good about how much I got done.
Can you relate?

Well, today I’m changing that. I have put together a wee book. Throughout the day, and then at night, I am going to write down everything I did. And so help me, I am going to focus on that, not the items still left undone. Yes, I will still have a to-do list. I’m just shifting the focus. I am going to celebrate what I did – perhaps with a small treat. I am going to learn how to be content with what I can do. I have a hunch that this will actually help me to get more stuff done. Or better yet, help me to just be…content.

I’ve read over and over again that having a gratitude journal will change your life. And that you get more of what you focus on. Think of it: taking a moment to write down the things we do is such a simple and dare I say it, fast way to be grateful for what we can do and to focus on something positive.

Printing directions: This is a two page pdf. To make a 30 day DONE book, here’s what you do:
The first page is half cover, so you’ll only want to print that page once. Print out three pages of page two. Then, print page two on the backs of all four pages. Cut the pages in half width wise, stack, fold in half, and then staple/sew the center. Done! Put that in your Done book!

I used to keep a running list of all the things I’d accomplished each month, and I liked the practice – it gave me a moment of feeling like I’d actually accomplished something, instead of my usual state, which is more like “OMG, I’m not getting enough done today!” I love the idea of keeping separate zines for each month – a really fun record to feel proud of as it grows!
